Garrett is okay (I married him on my current playthrough mainly because he's got a nice voice) but you have to be a girl character to romance him, boooooo. I really, really couldn't stand all the 'exotic beauty' stuff about the Redguard girl and the girl who keeps going on about being a 'gypsy'.
Other things that bugged me - Anduniel is kind of annoying (sorry to anyone who likes her).

It was actually the first one I tried, and particularly weird as I was a burly male Dunmer shouting like a weedy human girl, plus it's the full 'fus ro dah' more in the style of the trailer than the game version, so I was expecting, you know, 'FUS' and got that instead. One of the followers, for no obvious reason (I couldn't seem to, you know, ask her about it) Shouts - at the very least she has Unrelenting Force and Throw Voice - and not only is this weird and annoying, but when I killed Mirmulnir I realised that I had an extra 'copy' of Unrelenting Force in my own Shouts menu - I hadn't met that follower yet so had no idea what was going on, but eventually tracked down the sound file to Anna NPCs. Nothing unfixable, but 'immersion-breaking'/irritating. More problematically, I had a few minor but annoying bugs with Teryn's personal quest - an NPC who was supposed to go indoors and be spoken to to continue the quest suddenly teleported halfway across the map and I had to go and chase her down, and stuff like that.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'd recommend the mod - I've noticed some weird bugs in my game with it installed, and had several bugs with the mod itself - in my first (short, I'm playtesting - played about twenty hours, I think?) run through, one of the followers (fortunately not one I especially like) just had no dialogue lines whatsoever, and thus couldn't be recruited. (To be fair, I imagine this would be hard to code, but for example, Arissa has an approval system where she approves of things like landing the killing blow in boss fights, unlocking stuff, stealing (especially horses) and persuading (or bribing, I think) NPCs, and disapproves of stuff like being an assassin, intimidating NPCs, and I believe she will permanently leave if you become a cannibal.) Unfortunately, the 'approval' system doesn't seem to be influenced by anything other than completing their personal quests and saying the right things - it's a very rudimentary mimic of the system in the Dragon Age games, but as far as I've seen you can't, say, lose or gain follower approval by making certain choices in the main quest of the game, joining factions, and so on. Although tbh there was still a fair bit of that. He's a fairly entertaining Dunmer, with some nice nods to Morrowind in his dialogue, and (unlike some of the other followers) he actually has a personal quest so you don't solely increase his approval by giving him presents and spamming the same few dialogue options, as appears to be the case with my current character's husband, Garrett (I actually ended up just boosting Garrett's approval through the console as it would have taken forever otherwise). IMO the romance is also fairly sweet, although definitely best suited to a Good or Neutral character!) She can be romanced by male or female characters.Īnna NPCs has ten followers, mostly female - all the female followers can be romanced by a male player character, only one of the three male followers can, and you also have to be an Elf.

(Still, some advantages: quite a lot of 'content' - special dialogue and so on - both before and after marriage, including meeting the family, choosing a pet name (so she actually, you know, calls you something rather than just 'you', sometimes) and so on, plus generally she is incredibly well-made, one of the most 'feature filled' follower mods out there and because she's actually made by modders who know what they're doing, the features actually work. Vilja is great (okay, a lot of people can't stand the voice acting) but if you're mainly after a male partner, well, she's a girl, so. shagging around and having mostly ladies fall madly in love with you offered by Amorous Adventures) for a male (or gender irrelevant) characters are:
Technically, you can play through the Skyrim Romance Mod as a male (I believe) although presumably stuff like getting pregnant won't work (IDK maybe mpreg is a thing with the mod setup they require for the new version - either way, I'm given to understand the having a baby bit is optional) BUT you'll still be referred to as 'my lady' and 'she' and so on.Īs far as I can tell, the main options for actual romance (as opposed to, erm.
